Archbishop Anne Germond, acting primate of the Anglican Church of Canada, addressed General Synod, meeting in London June 23-30, with a message of unity and anticipation of major changes.

From many peoples and places, we have come to London, Ontario, Gichi Nibi (Ojibwe), to walk together in the forty-fourth session of the General Synod of the Anglican Church of Canada, under the inspiring theme, They Will Soar on Wings Like Eagles.

Greetings in the name of Jesus Christ to all gathered for this General Synod in London, Ontario. Archbishop Anne Germond has asked if I would share in her charge to Synod, as my final year as Primate covered the first year of this biennium.

General Synod has the power to live into God’s purpose for it by following his path even when the outcome is uncertain, retired U.S. bishop Michael Curry, former presiding bishop of The Episcopal Church, said June 23 as delegates in London, Ont. gathered for opening worship at St. Paul’s Cathedral.

A resolution to be considered at General Synod 2025, which begins June 23 and runs until June 29, asks the church’s governing body to examine allowing future primates of the Anglican Church of Canada to retain their roles as diocesan bishops or metropolitans.
